I began coaching high school sports in 1988 immediately after I ended my track career in college. While in college I majored in Physical Education.
My background includes playing, and/or, coaching the following sports:
- Track & Field
- Cross Country
- Football
- Baseball
- Soccer
- Softball
- Wrestling
- Basketball
- Golf (including Disc Golf)
Even though I’m on the wrong end of 50 I still play adult baseball, recreational softball, and I get in rounds of golf, or disc golf, whenever I can squeeze it into my schedule.
Starting as a small child I fell in love with the outdoors by camping, hiking, and trout fishing. I still find my way up into the mountains, when possible, always in search of the perfect trout stream.
My wife (Katie) and I married in 1991 and started our family 5 years later.
We have three adult children, two of which are also Track & Field/Cross Country coaches at the high school level. My third child is an accomplished artist.
I enjoy aquaponic gardening, keeping ponds (turtles, fish, crayfish), and cheering on MY San Diego Padres.
I am accomplished at playing multiple musical instruments having been formally trained on: Saxophone (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Baritone), Clarinet, Flute, French Horn, and Percussion. I self trained to sufficiently play: 6-string guitar, Bass Guitar, and Piano/keyboards.
I was born and raised in San Diego, and I am a proud 3rd generation San Diego native (one of the few).
